The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources will hold several of activities during the 2008 Year (starting late 2007). The main activities are:

  • 7-9 May 2008: National conference on coral reef research and management to be held at Phuket Marine Biological Center. During these 3 days, scientific research about coral reef will be presented, also the panel discussion on management. About 70 participants including researchers, manager (NGO) and diving operators will join the event [more information].
  • Coral reef conservation awareness programme, such as coral reef clean-up, special exhibition in Phuket Aquarium
  • Coral reef status survey by Green Fins members

Past activities

  • January 15th, 2008 - COTS collecting day. 460 COTS were collected from a site near Phuket Island [view pictures]
  • January 12th, 2008 - National Children Day at Phuket Marine Biological Center [view pictures]
  • December 2007 - Cleanup activity at Patong Beach (Phuket Island) in order to "welcome" the International Year of the Reef 2008 [view pictures]
